The CORTEX solid surface is based on Antimicrobial Technology.
The CORTEX solid surface is based on Antimicrobial Technology.
The antimicrobial additives that make up the cortex Micropower® surface can be incorporated into the manufacture of a variety of surfaces to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi and contaminants by up to 99.99%.
CORTEX SOLID SURFACE is a new generation of surfaces that can be used to improve the efficiency of a laboratory process. Improved properties allow for increased lamination thickness and higher impact resistance.
Longer service life provided by increased flexibility and resistance to powerful compounds typically used in a laboratory.
Benefits
«Eliminates 99.9% of bacteria within two hours». Its use was authorized for the manufacture of products for commercial, residential and healthcare environments. WHO clarifies that solid surface alloys should be used as an adjunct to, and not a replacement for, standard surface cleaning and disinfection practices.
Tolerates heavy design loads without failure due to surface damage. This makes it easier to work with large volume and heavy equipment.
Superior elongation and firmness gives CORTEX laminates greater impact resistance and reduced cracking due to cyclic temperature, pressure fluctuations and mechanical shock, providing a safety factor against damage during process upsets or during transportation to the installation site.
It complies with 21 CFR 177.2420 of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), covering materials for repeated use in contact with food.
Cortex® A series is a basic formulation containing a resin blend combined with aluminum mineral filler.
It is considered a durable product, however it can be damaged by severe impact or excessive or prolonged exposure to heat. Cortex recommends that hot labware always be placed on a trivet, rather than directly on the surface.
It is a non-porous surface and can be bonded with very discreet seams almost imperceptible to the human eye, so spills and stains are not normally absorbed into the surface, making the product resistant to many types of stains. Common laboratory spills such as dyes, acids, buffers, or other common reagents can be easily removed using a detergent and scouring pad, followed by thorough rinsing.
The miracles of science
CORTEX A® is a solid and homogeneous material that can be transformed with carpentry tools. It is fully repairable and its maintenance is carried out with conventional cleaning products. It is a decorative, hygienic and impermeable material, recommended for direct contact with food.
The surface is 100% compact, without pores, therefore it does not retain odors and is resistant to stains.
Fabrication and Installation :
CORTEX A® can be cut to size and joined by discrete seams and sanded.
It should be fabricated and installed in accordance with recognized European solid surface industry guidelines.

CORTEX PRO® is the premium line of Cortex solid surfaces. It is an advanced composite used as a surface material in a wide variety of industrial laboratories. CORTEX PRO® is distinguished by its thermoformability, functionality and durability.
CORTEX PRO® is also functional: its surface is non-porous and has no noticeable joints, which facilitates cleaning; and it possesses fungicidal and antibacterial properties, which guarantee asepsis.
Remove residues by rubbing with a damp Scotch-Brite™ sponge and a cleaning product.
Proper use.
As a non-porous material, CORTEX PRO® solid surfaces do not absorb splashes or stains. However, some chemicals may stain, cause color fading or other surface damage. These include strong acids (such as concentrated sulfuric acid), ketones (acetone), chlorinated solvents (chloroform) or combinations of strong solvents (paint strippers).
The degree of deterioration will depend on the contact time. Except in the case of strong solvents, contact with these products for a short period does not normally cause serious damage to CORTEX PRO® solid surfaces. Acidic cleaners should not be used as they can damage both CORTEX® surfaces and plastic drains and pipes.
CORTEX® is not recommended for industrial process, physicochemical or synthesis laboratories.
